Broward Meat and Fish Company Supports JWOF Scholarship Fund
Denise and Ruben Lujo founded Broward Meat and Fish Company in 1991 in Lauderdale Lakes, as a neighborhood butcher shop and seafood market dedicated to serving the diverse South Florida community around it. The company has grown over 30 years to include two other stores (in North Lauderdale and Pembroke Pines), but it still strives to offer the broadest selection of quality local, Caribbean, and international foods. They focus on fresh food and old-fashioned customer service through fully-staffed, custom-order service counters, so that you get the perfect cut and the freshest flavor and quality. Anyone craving the taste of Jamaica, in particular, can rely on Broward Meat and Fish for traditional favorites like oxtail, goat, fresh conch meat, ackee, callaloo, yams, and brands like Grace, Caribbean Sunshine, Walkerswood, Tastee cheese, and much more.
Broward Meat and Fish has been a proud, long-time supporter of JWOF, and in 2018, volunteered to sponsor a $5,000 annual scholarship to support and encourage another powerful Jamaican-American woman in her educational endeavors. In Denise’s words, “I was inspired reading about the work of JWOF, and I believe that nothing is more important to a community than education. This scholarship is our way of saying thank you to the Jamaican community for all the years that they have supported us.”

Denise and her daughter attended JWOF’s women’s empowerment conference in 2018. “The conference was incredibly moving,” Denise says. “It was just such an impactful experience. The speakers were thought-provoking and impressive. And it is always fun to spend time with so many intelligent, hardworking women.”
