Master of Ceremonies - Dr. Susan L. Davis (Dr. Sue)

 

Susan Lycett Davis is a Professor Emeritus and HR/Organizational Leadership Consultant. Susan also writes, performs and is a sought after, keynote and motivational speaker.  Her personal catch phrase is “British by birth, Jamaican by choice and American by naturalization”. In the 1980s and early 1990s Susan Lycett worked as a Professional Actress and an esteemed Arts Administrator.  As a member of the British Actor’s Equity, she worked and toured extensively in the UK.

Known as Dr. Sue, in the entertainment world, her extensive and diverse work and life experiences make her material and delivery rich, humorous and educational.  She frequently hosts weekly radio and on-line Live slots called “Culture Corner with Dr. Sue” where she entertains and informs listeners on different Jamaican and Caribbean Cultural practices, sayings and customs – helping to keep their heritage alive. In 2015 Dr Sue wrote for and performed in Broward County’s “WE” production - their 100 year extravaganza and Duende celebration.

She is about to launch her third book “Living a HIP Life – Humble, Intentional, Prepared,” a faith based, non-fiction book.  This follows two successful publications of poetry “I am Jamaica” and  “Ode to Miss Lou…From the Soul of Dr Sue” – a Jamaica 50 Collectible Edition. 

Dr. Sue has served as the Jamaican Diaspora Advisory Board Member for Southern USA. Her role in this position was to liaise with and mobilize the Jamaican communities, businesses and organizations in the Southern USA region.  Dr. Sue continues to support several initiatives in the Diaspora, including the Jamaican Diaspora Education Task Force (JDETF), the Protect Them Task Force supporting the NUH GUH DEH initiative, a campaign advocating against Child Sexual Abuse, and is one of the founding members of the Louise Bennett Coverley Reading Festival. In 2012, Dr Sue was recognized by ICABA as one of South Florida’s 100 Most Accomplished Caribbean American Leaders.

She has hosted a successful FREE monthly ‘open mic’ networking/lime in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, called Culture Corner with Dr Sue & Friends, which featured a different theme and artist each month.  She produces an annual Comedy & Culture Fundraising event, which supports various initiatives, nationally and internationally.

In addition, Dr. Sue is a Notary, and serves on various university and community committees including Phi Kappa Phi honor society; Louise Bennett Coverley Heritage Council; and co-chair for her high school alumni – Knox College (South Florida Chapter).  She has served as an Education Advisory Board Member in the City of Pembroke Pines and Cultural Arts Advisory Board member for the City of Miramar.  

She is recognized as one of Jamaica’s “Women in Community Service” in JoAnne Simpson’s book, ‘The Jamaican Woman:  A Celebration,’ and was named one of Legacy Magazine’s 2015 Top Black Educators in South Florida.  Dr Sue oversees the Dr Sue Charitable Foundation, Inc., a 501(c)3, which serves the homeless,  sexually victimized children, young girls and boys locally and internationally; as well as support businesses and organizations who serve the community.  September 2019, she awarded the Kiwanis Passion Award, for helping others find their purpose and for making service their passion.  Most recently, for Black History Month, she was one of AT&T and Miami Herald’s 2020 South Florida Honorees, recognized for her engagement in various South Florida Community initiatives.
